How to use

  • Each day is enabled by default — uncheck the box next to a day to disable it (e.g. weekends off).
  • Enter clock-in and clock-out times for each active day. Use standard time pickers or type manually.
  • Enter break duration in minutes (e.g. 30 for a half-hour lunch). This is subtracted from your hours.
  • Optionally enter your hourly rate to see your regular pay, overtime pay, and total estimated pay.
  • Overtime is calculated after 40 hours by default (standard US). Change the threshold if your employer uses a different cutoff.
  • Use Quick Import to paste times in bulk: one line per day starting Monday, format 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 30.
  • Click Save to store your current time card in your browser. Click Load Saved to restore it.

Adding up hours from clock-in and clock-out times looks simple until unpaid breaks, overnight shifts, or several days in a pay period are involved — each of which introduces a common place for manual calculation errors.

Converting clock time to decimal hours

Payroll systems typically need hours in decimal form, not hours and minutes — 7 hours and 30 minutes is 7.5 hours for pay calculation purposes, not "7:30." A common mistake is treating 30 minutes as .30 instead of .50 (since 30 minutes is half an hour, or 50/100 of an hour, not 30/100).

Handling unpaid breaks

An unpaid lunch break needs to be subtracted from the total clocked time, not just noted separately. Clocking in at 9:00 AM and out at 5:30 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch is 8 hours worked, not 8.5 — a distinction that matters for both accurate pay and legal wage compliance.

Overnight shifts

A shift that starts before midnight and ends after it (clocking in at 10:00 PM, out at 6:00 AM) requires calculating across the day boundary correctly — a common source of errors in manual timesheets, since simple subtraction of clock-out minus clock-in produces a negative or nonsensical result without accounting for the date change.
