About Thread Conversions
DMC and Anchor are the two most popular brands of embroidery floss worldwide. Many patterns list DMC numbers; this chart helps you find the nearest Anchor equivalent when DMC is unavailable.
Are Conversions Exact?
No. DMC and Anchor use different dye lots and color mixing processes. The converted color is the closest visual match, but there will often be a slight difference in hue, saturation, or value. For critical color matching, always compare threads side by side in natural light.
How to Search
- Type a DMC number (e.g. "321") to find the Anchor equivalent.
- Type an Anchor number (e.g. "9046") to find the DMC equivalent.
- Type a color name (e.g. "red" or "navy") to browse by description.
What About Madeira?
Madeira thread also has a popular conversion system. A future version of this chart may include Madeira numbers. For now, Madeira publishes a free conversion chart on their website.
