How to Use This Calculator
- Select a size preset or enter custom measurements.
- Enter your gauge in stitches per inch — sock yarn is usually knit at 7–9 sts/inch.
- Click Calculate to get your cast-on count, heel flap stitches, and yardage per sock and per pair.
Tips
- Most sock patterns are knit with negative ease — the foot circumference of the sock should be about ½" less than the actual foot circumference.
- A standard 100g fingering weight skein (400–450 yards) is usually enough for one average women's sock. Two skeins = one pair.
- The heel flap stitch count is typically half the total cast-on stitches.
- Gauge swatch in the round for the most accurate result, as gauge often differs between flat and circular knitting.
