Sleeve Decrease Calculator
Calculate a sleeve decrease schedule — how often to decrease and how many times — for a perfectly tapered sleeve.
How to use
- Enter your starting stitch count (the count at the widest point, usually upper arm).
- Enter your ending stitch count (at the wrist/cuff, before the ribbing).
- Enter the total rows for the sleeve body (not including cuff ribbing rows).
- Decreases are worked 1 stitch each end of a row, so each decrease row reduces the count by 2.
- When rows don't divide evenly, a mixed interval schedule is provided (some decreases spaced X rows apart, others Y rows apart).
Tip: When working flat (back and forth), work decreases on RS rows only. When working in the round, work decrease rounds on even intervals.
Actual sleeve fit depends on ease allowances and body measurements. Always check a pattern's schematic before substituting calculations.
