How to Use This Tool

  • Yards Per Gram: Enter your skein's weight and yardage to find its yd/g and yd/oz ratios. Useful for comparing yarns with different skein sizes.
  • Partial Skein: Enter the full skein specs plus the weight you have remaining to estimate how many yards are left. Formula: remaining yards = (remaining g ÷ full g) × full yardage.
  • Reference Table: Use to estimate yardage when labels are missing or when planning purchases.

Comparing Yarn Prices by Yards Per Gram

A 50g skein at 220 yards and a 100g skein at 200 yards are very different values! Yards per gram (yd/g) is the best way to compare yarn prices fairly across different skein sizes. Higher yd/g = more yardage per gram = better value for fine work.
