How to Use This Estimator
- Select your shawl shape — triangle, rectangle, semicircle, or crescent.
- Enter the wingspan (widest edge) and depth (from top edge to bottom point or hem).
- Select yarn weight and stitch type. Lace patterns use more yarn per area than stockinette.
- Click Estimate Yardage to get your estimate in yards and meters.
Shape Notes
- Triangle: Area calculated as ½ × wingspan × depth.
- Rectangle: Area = wingspan × depth.
- Semicircle: Area = ½ × π × r² where wingspan = diameter.
- Crescent: Approximated as 60% of a semicircle of the same wingspan.
