How to Use the Motif Join Calculator
- Motif size: Measure your blocked motif from edge to edge (in inches).
- Join allowance: If your joining method adds or reduces the effective size (e.g., slip-stitch joins that pull in), enter the reduction per join in inches. Leave 0 for flat joins.
- Project dimensions: Enter the finished width and length you want.
- Border: If you plan a border, enter its width — the calculator subtracts it from the motif area so the layout is accurate.
The calculator floors the count (only complete motifs), so the actual size may be slightly smaller than requested. Order a few extra motifs as a buffer.
Actual sizes depend on your gauge, blocking, and joining technique.
