Knitting Pattern Repeat Calculator
Find how many full pattern repeats fit your stitch count, with adjusted cast-on numbers.
"Multiple of 8 + 3" → enter 3 here
Enter 1 for 1 selvedge on each side (total 2)
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your total stitch count (from your cast-on calculator or pattern).
- Enter the pattern repeat size — e.g. "6" for a 6-stitch repeat.
- If the pattern says "multiple of 8 plus 3," enter 8 for repeat size and 3 for extra stitches.
- Selvedge stitches are edge stitches that frame the pattern — common in flat knitting. Enter 1 for a 1-stitch selvedge on each side.
Understanding "Multiple of X plus Y"
Many patterns describe stitch multiples like "multiple of 6 plus 2." This means the repeat is 6 stitches, plus 2 extra stitches at the end to balance the pattern visually. Example: 38 stitches = 6 × 6 repeats + 2 extra = valid for "multiple of 6 plus 2."
Written Instruction Format
The calculator generates a written instruction like knitting patterns use, showing the breakdown of selvedge + repeats + extra stitches.
