How to Use This Calculator
- Choose a standard blanket size or enter custom dimensions in inches.
- Select your construction method — flat (knitting back and forth) or in the round.
- Enter your gauge from a blocked swatch: stitches per 4 inches and rows per 4 inches.
- Click Calculate to get your cast-on count, row total, and yardage estimate.
Flat vs. In the Round
- Flat: You cast on the full width and work back and forth. Cast-on = stitches for the full width.
- In the round: Some blanket constructions start from the center or work in a tube (later seamed). If knitting in the round flat (e.g. for a double-knit blanket), you cast on twice the width.
- Most standard rectangular blankets are knitted flat unless using a special technique.
