How to Use This Calculator

  • Select a blanket size preset or enter your own dimensions.
  • Enter the finished size of each granny square (after blocking).
  • Add a seam allowance if you'll be seaming squares together (typically 0.25").
  • Enter how many yards of yarn each square uses to get total yardage.
  • Click Calculate to see the layout grid and total square count.

Tips

  • Block your granny squares before joining — blocking evens out size differences and makes joining easier.
  • The "actual" blanket size shown accounts for the grid layout and may differ slightly from your target dimensions.
  • Traditional granny squares with worsted weight and a 5mm hook typically finish at 4–6" after blocking.
  • Add extra yardage for the joining method (slip stitch, single crochet, or whip stitch join).
