Even Stitch Decrease Calculator

Find out exactly how to space your decreases evenly across a knitting or crochet row.

How to use

  • Enter your current stitch count — the number you have on your needles now.
  • Enter your desired stitch count — it must be lower than the current count.
  • Select your craft type to get the correct decrease abbreviation.
  • Click Calculate Decreases for step-by-step written instructions.
  • When decreases don't divide perfectly, the calculator creates two groups: some sections with slightly different spacing so the result is as even as possible.

A k2tog (knit 2 together) reduces your stitch count by 1. A sc2tog (single crochet 2 together) does the same in crochet.
