About Blanket Borders

The top and bottom edges of a blanket are picked up based on stitch gauge (one stitch per stitch). The left and right edges are picked up based on row gauge (typically one stitch per row end, or sometimes 2 stitches per 3 row ends to keep things flat). This calculator uses row gauge directly — adjust for your pattern if needed.

For a flat, non-ruffling border, work 3 stitches into each corner. For a ruffled border, use 5 stitches in corners.
