Buttonhole Spacing Calculator
Enter your band stitch count and number of buttonholes to get perfectly spaced positions with a visual layout.
How to Use
- Band stitch count: Total stitches in your button band, usually picked up along the front edge.
- Number of buttonholes: Count your buttons — each button needs one hole.
- Buttonhole size: For most adult garments, 2 stitches is standard (bind off 2, cast on 2 on next row).
- Edge stitches: Stitches at each end that are never used for a buttonhole (keeps edges neat).
Tips
- The top and bottom buttonholes are typically 2–3 stitches in from each edge.
- For a 1-row buttonhole: bind off the number of stitches, then on the next row cast on the same number over the gap.
- Test your button through a sample buttonhole before committing to the full band.
- If spacing comes out uneven, add extra stitches to the spaces closest to the center of the band.
