How to Use
- Enter the total number of rounds in your head piece (from magic ring to final round before closing).
- Enter the stitch count at the widest round (usually the middle of the head).
- Choose an eye style — wide apart for a cute cartoon look, close together for a more realistic appearance.
- Click Calculate Eye Placement for suggested round and stitch positions.
Eye Placement Rules of Thumb
- Round placement: Eyes typically go between rounds 8–12 on a standard 18-round head, around 40–50% up from the start (magic ring).
- Stitch spacing: On an 18-stitch round, eyes are usually 6 stitches apart (counting the stitches between them). On a 30-stitch round, about 10 stitches apart for normal spacing.
- Height: Eyes below the halfway point of the head create a "baby face" look. Eyes at or above the midpoint look more mature.
- Attach eyes before stuffing and closing the head — it's much easier to reach inside and snap the washer on.
Placement Tips
- Use locking stitch markers or pins to test positions before inserting eyes permanently.
- Count from the center stitch of the face outward for symmetrical placement.
- For asymmetric or quirky characters, try offset heights — one eye slightly higher than the other.
Results are estimates. Actual results vary by gauge, tension, yarn, and hook size.
